Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers

 

 

 

Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers is affiliate with the College of Materials Science and Engineering in BUCT. Currently, there are 9 faculty members (3 professors, 5 associate professors, and 1 engineer). Beijing Engineering Research Center of Synthesis and Application of Waterborne Polymer have been established, relying on the Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers.

 

The main research topics in the Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers include theory and technology of emulsion polymerization; synthesis and application of waterborne polymer (waterborne paint, waterborne adhesive, and waterborne printing ink); solvent-free and high-solid-content paints and adhesives; damping and heat-insulating materials; hyperbranched and multi-functional epoxy resins with high performance; solar cell polymeric materials; conductive polymeric materials; chemometrics study on spectral processing of complex system, qualitatively and quantitatively multivariate calibration, pattern identification, and model transition; on-line near-infrared spectroscopy technique and instrument on material structure and chemical process; development of portable and on-line equipments for spectral analysis; development of software and system integration technique for spectral analysis.

 

There are many advance instruments in Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers, including (i) morphology characterization instrument: atomic force microscope (one), scattering electron microscope (one), and high magnification optical microscope (several); (ii) molecular spectrograph: near-infrared spectrograph (more than ten), Fourier-transform infrared spectrograph (several), ultraviolet spectrograph (several), and fluorescence spectrometer (one); (iii) thermal analyzer: DSC, DMA, TMA, TA, laser macro-rheoviscometer, rheoviscometer with dielectric accessory; (iv) dynamic light scattering, laser film forming analyzer, laser stability analyzer, contact angle instrument, minimum forming film temperature analyzer, electrochemistryworkstation, UV aging instrument, color-difference meter, salt spray test chamber; (v) processing equipment for plastic and rubber: extruding machine, injection molding machine, open mill, internal mixer, and casting machine. The pilot system for the synthesis of polymeric materials and preparation of paints has been built in Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers with the production capacity at 1000 ton/year.

 

Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers always focuses on resolving the scientific frontier issues about waterborne and Functional Polymers, and the combination of theory and practice. Considering the development of national technology and economy, the education, scientific research, and social service were also carried out in Research Center of Waterborne and Functional Polymers. And our research center also accepts the postdoctoral researcher and cultivates the postgraduate (doctor and master) and undergraduate on material science and engineering.
