Polymer material

Polymer material is the foundation for development of national economy. It has important impacts on both the production and people's life style. The Polymer Science and Engineering cover the full realm of polymer application, including plastics, fibers, rubber and elastomers, composites, coatings, adhesives, films etc.. After four-year education, the students should have the ability to do scientific research on polymer material, R & D for polymer material manufacturing and processing, technical administration and so on. The employment of graduates widens from the traditional industry to emerging discipline (biology technology, biomedical, electronic material, energy science, space sciences and environment).

Graduates receiving the Bachelor of Polymer Science and Engineering are expected to have attained:(a)an ability to understand and apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering, (b)a comprehensive understanding of polymer material design, preparation, characterization, structure and performance, (c)an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;(d)an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs of polymer material, (e)an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for polymer engineering practice, (f)an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility, (g)an ability to engage in life-long learning, (h)strong creative consciousness.

At least 198.5 credits are required for graduation, of which 34.5 credits for  selective professional course, 67 for required public course, 57 for compulsory professional course,  6 for school-level public course, and 34 for practical studies. The major fundamental courses are Basic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Chemical Engineering Principle, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Design as well as mathematics, physics, computer science and foreign language. The core courses for Polymer Science and Engineering are Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Physics, Engineering base of polymerization reaction, Manufacture Engineering of Polymers, Polymer Characterization, Polymer science experiments.
