Research Laboratory of Membrane Science and Engineering team of our university published academic research papers in Nature Communications

Recently, the research team of Professor Cao Bing and Associate Professor Li Pei (corresponding author) of the college of materials science and engineering of our university published a research article entitled "Tailoring the molecular structure of intersected polymers for diffusion destination" in Nature Communications. Desalination of high concentration brine is a worldwide problem. At present, membrane pervaporation technology is focused as an effective solution, and the core of membrane technology is the design and preparation of membrane materials. Through the combination of molecular simulation and experiment, the research team has found out the mechanism of mass transfer and movement of substances in the membrane materials, clarified the design idea of multilayer composite membrane structure and the method of synthesis and preparation of functional layer materials, developed a process route that can realize large-scale preparation. The water flux of the prepared pervaporation composite membrane has reached 234.9 ± 8.1 kg m-2 h-1, which is more than three times the optimal value reported publicly, has the ability of industrial application.The results of this study provide feasible technical support for solving the major demand of desalination treatment of high concentration wastewater and the shortage of fresh water resources.

      The first author of this paper is Xue Yunlong, a Ph.D. student in the college of materials science and engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology as the first completion unit.
